Welcome back to the Smiley Spot!
My name is Dov Smiley, I am an aspiring comic book artist. This
blog is a way for me to connect with the comic book culture and discuss where
these books we all love are going.
I originally worked on this blog for the great Toronto Indy
publisher UysFaber as a way to bring people towards our original content. I am
taking it back up because I enjoy discussing comic book related topics, and as
a way to promote what I am up to in my own practice.

Since then, I have been attending the Kubert School, or as
the industry calls it, Comic Book Boot Camp, and have a lot of fun stories and great experiences to
share from there. Over the past year I have started producing my own comics and
worked (jonahcomic.com) as an illustrator for several successful crowd funded projects. I am
enjoying the success that comes from starting up, and am excited by every new
project. I am learning that there are no real secrets to comics. You have to
work as hard as you can, be nice and work with others to tell the best story
possible.

This blog is a way for me to add my voice to a growing
discussion and hopefully be a place you enjoy reading. I will give my thoughts
and opinions without being derivative of the things that give people a lot of joy.
Like all blogs, feedback is crucial, so if you like a particular post, please
let me know.
I am running this blog in conjunction with the Kubert School’s
special project program. With them I am going to publish 2 entries a week, and
per our agreement I will be sharing some of my original artwork with each post.
I will try to make the artwork relevant to the discussion, and when that is not
possible, I hope you enjoy my evolving portfolio as I share it.
